A friend’s husband turned up to drop his daughter off at nursery on Tuesday – their 10 day overdue baby had been born at home, 10 min before the midwife arrived, and with minimal fuss the night before. (Their older children had just been put to bed, when the midwife had arrived, checked everything over, had a cup of tea and departed, it was still only 9:30, and everyone had a good night’s sleep.) While absolutely delighted to hear all of this, my immediate reaction was “Oh help! I haven’t knitted!” But now I have, so everything is OK.
